County fair!

The Riley county fair was the towards the end of July and a few weeks before there was an insert in the paper about it. I was going through it and saw that there was open class cake decorating, and joked with Derrick that I was going to enter a cake in the fair. About a week before the fair I decided that I really was going to enter a cake and decided on a Wedding cake. (almost did a kid's cake though)
The girls overheard and decided they wanted to enter something in the fair as well, so I told them about the open arts and that they could make a drawing or craft and enter it too. They were thrilled!
So in between my summer class and random house things I made a wedding cake.
Mckenna made a bird's nest in a tree with a bird and eggs. Hailey drew Bob the Blob from the movie Monsters Vs. Aliens. They both did great and are looking forward to entering something again next year.
Mckenna and her Craft, she won a blue ribbon
Hailey, being a pill, with her Bob the Blob drawing. She won a purple ribbon.

My Wedding cake. It is covered in fondant with fondant roses. I won the purple ribbon and can go to the state fair, but it is in Sept. and a couple hours away, so we will see. Also my cake was chosen to receive an extra prize, I got to pick a prize from the Wilton company and it is being sent to my house! I'll take pics then.

Baby Birds

We were lucky enough to have a Cardinal nest in the tree right in the front yard. I have a feeder hanging in that tree, so I'm guessing thats why they had the nest so low.
The eggs the day we noticed them.
The babies, day one!
The next day

The following days after that.
The mother watching over
Thats the baby out of the nestThe day after this they took off. It was neat to watch them progress. The nest is still there and I am hoping that eventually it will be used again!

First Grade

Yeah the title pretty much sums it up! It's official we have a first grader! Last night we went to her open house and met with her teacher. Ms. Ewing is her teacher and she has a couple friends in her class from kindergarten...she was a little nervous that she wouldn't know anyone.
The first day of school pictures everyone takes!
Hailey had to get in on the action too.
She was so excited, she was up two hours before we had to go!

Hopefully I can find the time in my days to get on here and keep up with this. Maybe tomorrow I will get the pictures up of the baby birds that we watched for about a week and a half!

Obviously!

In the beginning I knew that I would be terrible about getting on here and keeping a blog updated. I just didn't realize HOW bad I was, lol!
I finished up my first semester of college with a 4.0 I was excited about it, still am, but I'm now hoping that I can keep it up. Mckenna finished Kindergarten on May 23, on to First grade she goes. She is really excited and enjoys school so much. She asks daily if she gets to go to school the next day, she is ready for it to start again.
I got the camera that I have been dreaming about for the longest time today. I took over 400 pictures today just playing around with the settings, and trying to work the camera in Manual mode.
I've got a pretty busy summer coming up. We leave shortly to head to Oklahoma City to watch the USA Olympic Softball team play. As soon as we get back from that summer school starts. That weekend My mom is coming here. A few days later my grandma is coming in. Busy, busy, busy!
Some pics from earlier today with the new camera! Enjoy!

Random first blog

After having an account for a few months I have finally had a chance to sit down and put something up. May not be much since in about 15 min I need to be out the door, but it's a start.
We have been busy since we moved to Kansas.
Derrick deployed for a third time.

Mckenna started school.

And I started school!
It has been an adjustment for us all.
Mckenna is doing really well in school. She loves her teachers and has made some good friends. I still can't believe that she is in school. She is getting so big.
Maybe next time I will get the hang of this and it won't take me 10 minutes to figure out how to put a picture up!
